So what's this all about?
Hello, I'm Kirsty and that's me with my Ma... and a cow.
I have always been passionate about the environment and finding ways to reduce my impact.
When I was 14 we did a quiz in our Geography class. From these probing questions, we were told how many Earths would be needed if everyone shared our lifestyle. The results were shocking. There were two people in my class of around 30 who needed one Earth or less. The average was three. THREE planet Earths. Shuffling off to our Maths class, I couldn't understand how everyone else was going about their day whilst my mind was befuddled and firmly fixated by the news I'd just heard.
I'm not going to claim that this was the lightbulb moment when I realised I must dedicate my life to saving the planet, or that I vowed to ne'er rest until the ice caps stop melting... But it is certainly something that has stuck with me. Shout out to Mr. Chadwick.
Fast forward some years and I have moved myself to Bristol. The perfect home for me - friendly, colourful, fiercely independent and with a hearty emphasis on sustainability. Then of course the next logical move was to fall in love with someone from Brighton. Love eh? A few months later I was made redundant after a big restructure at work and decided that this was a sign from the universe telling me to stop my four hour love commute and should just in fact move down here. And so I did.
I was surprised when I arrived that despite all of the brilliant initiatives and eco events, I couldn't find one central hub to find out about all of these things. After a handful of networking pitches and much trial and error on Wix, Green Eyes was born.
A website for finding out about upcoming events and a place to learn more about wasting less, short blogs without the jargon and information about local organisations and initiatives who are doing their bit.
Green Eyes – the eyes on all things green in Brighton & Hove.
